Squared were engaged by our client SPA in a collaborative model to procure, fabricate and install over 80t of steel in Parliament Station across the North and South passage and to procure and fabricate over 50t of structural steel for Melbourne Central.
This involved installing access platforms in the existing draft vent relief shafts for the Station which had very tight access and is 40m deep. The works were completed during both day and night shift and whilst trains were running beside our works. Most of the works were completed off ropes which included demo of existing walkways, removal of sound baffles and installation of the new structural staircase and platforms.
We were able to work closely with our structural steel supplier to have them preassemble flights of stairs to be installed as one unit to speed up installation. The installation of the structural steel was particularly complex due to our installation methodology to suit the access and timeframes.
